Funded! Dr. Laura Grogan awarded New Researcher Grant!

Dr. Laura Grogan is excited to have been awarded $14,890 under the 2019 Griffith University New Researcher Grant Scheme for the project “A metabolomic investigation of the amphibian fungal skin disease, chytridiomycosis”!

Chytridiomycosis is a fatal fungal skin disease of amphibians that has caused unprecedented species’ declines and extinctions worldwide. It is unclear why some individuals and species succumb to disease, while others can tolerate equivalent infectious burdens without detrimental effects. The aim of this project is to investigate the hypothesis that the depletion of key metabolites in late-stage chytridiomycosis is associated with immunopathology and subsequent mortality of susceptible animals. This project will combine cutting-edge organism-wide metabolomics approaches with immunologic diagnostics, and will be of international significance, contributing to amphibian conservation.
