Overview
I am in my final year of my Bachelor of Environmental Science majoring in Urban Environments and Environmental Management. While my degree has directed my vision towards the anthropological side of Ecology, looking into how humanity has and/continues to shape the environment and the impacts that have been caused, and what we can do to help mitigate or adapt to the drastic changes- it is interesting being in the lab observing these effects firsthand.
Research Overview
I have been lucky to be able to complete a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) internship assisting Simon Roach with his research investigating the effects that firefighting chemicals (PHOS-CHeK) have on the development of amphibians, mainly Limnodynastes peronii. This research is under the guidance of Dr. Chantal Lanctot with co-supervision by Dr. Laura Grogan, Dr. Clare Morrison and Prof. Hamish McCallum. This 300-hour internship program will be completed over the 12 weeks of trimester 2 and have me completing routine animal husbandry services and record keeping while completing numerous reports for the WIL Program.
Career Goals
While I am uncertain of my future job prospects, this position has opened my eyes to the many possibilities I could pursue not only in research but other sectors. Sustainability practices and carbon sequestration, climate mitigation and adaptation policies, fire ecology, water and waste management are just a few of the many avenues I would like to one day explore in this field.
